Obento June 3, 2010

Good morning!  Some of you may already be aware of today's weather here, it's cloudy morning... dull shot!
This morning, babykins made some shumai for bento.  Do I have to confess!?  That these shumai were made from the rest of yesterday's tofu/chicken burger mixture, hehe.  I wrapped the mixture in gyoza skins because the nearby store was out of a pack of shumai skins.  So I reluctantly used it but it unexpectedly turned into kinda flowery things so I liked *gyoza-skin-shumai*!  Give it a try!!  It feels like a gyoza skin is too thick for shumai, though!?  I don't mind it, hehe.

Tofu/chicken shumai
Stir fried pieces of ika-squid (green onion, sesame oil, salt and black pepper)
Braised chicken tender and cucumber slices ume-salad
Atsuage steak (shoyu and oyster sauce)

Atsuage is a fried firm tofu, not watery so you don't need to drain.  Ume-salad is refreshing and good for the summertime bento.  Do you have any *ume-boshi* on hand?  I'm going to post the recipe when I can get around to writing it!

  8. Ha, I often buy a pack of frozen shumai and gyoza! But nothing beats home-made stuff after all. I'm always impressed you always hand-make varied things!
